Wesley A. Stoddard is a highly accomplished attorney with decades of experience practicing law in South Carolina. He has been a partner at Moore, Stoddard, Stoddard & Wood, now known as Stoddard Law Firm since 1975, working alongside his late father, Robert L. Stoddard, a former Mayor of Spartanburg. Wesley is admitted to practice in the South Carolina Supreme Court, the United States District Court, and the United States Supreme Court.
His legal career includes serving as an Assistant City Attorney/Prosecutor for the City of Spartanburg from 1984 to 1995. His early career also included time as a Legislative Page in the South Carolina State Senate from 1974 to 1975 and as an Intern for Senator Strom Thurmond in Washington, D.C. in 1970.
Wesley earned his Law degree from the University of South Carolina in 1975, where he served as President of the Student Bar Association. He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Management from Clemson University, where he was a freshman cheerleader.
Throughout his career, Wesley has been a respected leader in the legal community. He served as President of the Spartanburg County Bar Association in 2018 and received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the association in 2022. His involvement with the South Carolina Bar includes serving on the Board of Governors, House of Delegates, and the Nominating Committee. He was also the President of the Young Lawyers Division of the South Carolina Bar and a National Co-Chairman for the American Bar Association's Young Lawyers Division Community Law Week in 1983.
Wesley is deeply committed to community service and leadership. He has been an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Spartanburg, serving as both President and Lieutenant Governor. He has also been involved with the First Presbyterian Church as an Elder, Deacon, and past Clerk of the Session. His dedication to local education and youth programs includes coaching various sports teams and serving on multiple boards, including the Mountainview Nursing Home and the Spartanburg Touchdown/Tipoff Club. He also was the Treasurer for the fund raising efforts to build a chapel at Dutchman prison and for the founding of project E.A.T., now known as Total Ministries.
Wesley is a proud father of two children, Maddie and Wesley Jr. Maddie is a Clemson University graduate, where she was selected to be in Blue Key, and is a third-generation Clemson Tiger. Wesley Jr. graduated from The Citadel, where he competed in track and cross-country and performed with the Citadel Chorus.
